WALKTALK was a bold and challenging nationwide initiative encouraging people to participate, at whatever level, in a 200+ mile walk from Leeds to London that took place during July/August 2008, building relationships and understanding as they do so. The idea was conceived by Gill Hicks and her husband Joe Kerr and developed with Global Promise and Together for Peace.
WALKTALK covered about 10 miles each day, spanning one month in total. We are helping to catalyse and work with diverse and strategic steering groups in many of the towns and cities we pass through, to ensure the initiative links well with each locality. Indeed, WALKTALK hopes the dialogue will continue in each of the communities where it stops overnight, so creating a chain of human connections spanning the route. WALKTALK will focus media attention on stories of success and hope in multi-cultural England.
This year, WALKTALK is expanding its concept to benefit African Communities as well. WALKTALK for Africa will set off on 9th August 2009. For more information on how to get involved in this exciting initiative, please email us here.
